The Misty Isle of Myth and Legend

The Misty Isle of Myth and Legend

Where is the Isle of Skye?

The Isle of Skye is located off the West Coast of Scotland in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Skye is an island 50 miles long and 25 miles wide. The capital is Portree.  Some say it’s called Skye – because of it Norse/Viking heritage – Skye is Norse for Clouds and the suffix YE meaning island – literally translated the Isle of Skye in Norse means The Island of Clouds.   It is one of the most visited parts of the Britain Isles.

What makes this island so special?

The Isle of Skye is one of Scotland’s most beautiful and rugged landscapes, with breathtaking scenery, dramatic cliffs, medieval castles and colourful fishing villages.  It has an almost other worldly or ethereal quality, that captures the hearts and imagination of thousands of visitors. each year.  It especially speaks to those who love a timeless wilderness.  Associated with clan battles, Jacobite uprisings and Highland Clearances. Skye has been the inspiration for poems, songs, stories and movies across generations.

This is the birthplace of the Isle of Skye, blended Scotch whisky, a whisky as epic as the landscape that inspired it.
